Matt Stone Racing steps up to Supercars with Hazelwood

Matt Stone Racing and Todd Hazelwood are proud to announce they will both step-up into the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship for 2018 and 2019.

Fresh from clean-sweeping the final round and winning Dunlop Super2 Series, as well as a Wildcard appearance this season, the team will make the transition into the Championship starting at Adelaide in March.

Matt Stone Racing will utilise a Racing Entitlements Contract from Jason Bright, which guarantees the team a spot in the Championship.

The team will also form a partnership with Shell V-Power Racing Team, racing one of their Ford FG-X Falcons that has been freshly rebuilt for next season.

Successful businessman and CEO of iseek Communications Jason Gomersall will continue his partnership with the team, reaching his fifth year of support and bringing his leadership and business knowledge to the team.

Former Supercars REC owner and successful businessman James Rosenberg will also support Matt Stone Racing, purchasing the Falcon from Shell V-Power Racing Team.

Hazelwood’s 2017 engineer Wes McDougall will partner with the team for the third consecutive season, marking his return to the Championship since his career with Stone Brothers Racing.

This also embarks the Stone’s return to the Championship, after the family’s successful history in the sport with Stone Brothers Racing.

Todd Hazelwood – driver
“I am very proud to be joining the other 25 drivers in the 2018 Supercars Championship. After such an incredible 2017 season, there is no better time to make this transition and start an exciting new chapter of my career. I am more than ready for this and I’m so fortunate that we have been able to achieve this deal. I am so grateful to have such incredible people in my corner like Matt, Jason and James and cannot wait to see what we will achieve in 2018.”

Matt Stone – team owner
“Speaking on behalf of the whole team, we cannot wait for a huge 2018 season. The success we achieved with Todd and the team in 2017 demonstrates we are more than ready to make this exciting transition. The Matt Stone Racing team have tasted success in each category we have competed in and it is very special to see our team on the main series grid next year. We are prepared and have the key ingredients to be successful when we arrive in Adelaide in 2018.”

Jason Gomersall – co-backer of the team
“I’ve been on this journey for four years and it has been a brilliant partnership. I’ve enjoyed every moment and there’s no way I’m jumping off now. I cannot wait to be part of the next phase.”

James Rosenberg – co-backer of the team
“Having known Todd since his F3 days, I know that he is ready — everyone knows that he is. What’s amazing about Todd is his on-and-off track presence and he’s the best person I’ve ever seen in all aspects. I think Jason’s continued support in both Todd and the team should be recognised, he’s played such a strong part in this. Lastly, one of the best things about this is seeing the Stone name back in main game… it’s going to be a great season.”
