Hazelwood hits Tasmanian circuit

Todd Hazelwood made his Supercars Championship debut in Tasmania today, setting foot on the Symmons Plains circuit for the first time in the Bigmate Racing Falcon.

The 22-year-old believes the team made great progress with the car today, after finishing 17th in opening practice and 24th in the final session.

“It’s been a good day for the team in Tassie … very pleased with how the car rolled out on the track and we’re feeling confident that we will have a good package for qualifying tomorrow,” Hazelwood said.

“We have made a number of changes to the chassis since we last raced in Melbourne and we have made great progress, I’m feeling very comfortable behind the wheel and I feel everything is heading in the right direction.

“In Practice 2 we did a race run and the car felt a lot better, it was looking after its tyres well and knowing this will help us greatly in the race. Finishing P24 in the second practice didn’t show our full potential and I feel we will be able to fight for a solid finishing position.”

The Matt Stone Racing team have a big weekend ahead of racing, including their two Dunlop Super2 Series entries with Bryce Fullwood and Tyler Greenbury, as well as fellow Bigmate Racing driver Jason Gomersall competing in Touring Car Masters.

“I’m proud of how the team worked today considering the massive workload involved in preparation for this event … bring on tomorrow,” Hazelwood added.

The Bigmate Racing team will be back on track tomorrow for a further practice session, before qualifying and Race 7 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
