Gold Coast debut awaits Bigmate Racing

This weekend’s Gold Coast 600 will mark Bigmate Racing’s debut at the event, with full-time rookie Todd Hazelwood and rookie co-driver Bryce Fullwood.

Together the drivers have one start at the Surfers Paradise street circuit to their name, with Hazelwood co-driving with Tim Blanchard in 2017.

Both drivers are excited for the weekend ahead, in an event that will mark the end of Bigmate Racing’s first Supercars endurance season.

“This weekend is always a tough event to get success at … the circuit is lined with concrete and big kerbs and there is no margin for error, it really rewards a good, comfortable car setup and a driver with confidence,” Hazelwood said.

“Our cars this season have always been good at street circuits and hopefully this weekend we can put in a solid job and bring the car home in a solid position.

“It’s been a big learning curve for the team and I during our first enduro campaign together and I feel we have done a fantastic job so far—I was really proud of the team at Bathurst and I look forward to seeing what we can do this weekend on the Gold Coast.”

This weekend will also see the end of Fullwood’s debut PIRTEK Enduro Cup campaign, where the Bigmate Racing team sit 21st with one round remaining.

“I have really enjoyed working with Todd and the team at Matt Stone Racing for the Enduro Cup this year,” Fullwood said.

“I wasn’t really sure what to expect as I haven’t done it before, but I’ve learnt a lot and I’m excited to get this weekend underway.

“I haven’t raced at the Gold Coast 600 before … it’s a race I’ve always made an effort as a kid to watch because I always loved seeing the cars on two wheels over he massive curbs.

“I’m really looking forward to sinking my teeth into this weekend and getting some laps under my belt at this gnarly circuit.”

Bigmate Racing will also welcome new commercial partner Juniper Networks to the team this weekend.

“Very proud to also announce that Juniper Networks will be joining the team for the remainder of 2018 starting at this weekend’s Gold Coast 600,” Hazelwood added.

“We have a huge amount of supporters attending the event and hopefully we put a great show on for everyone involved.

“Special thank you to all our loyal partners for their continued support.”

The Gold Coast 600 event will run on 19-21 October.
